GPS in iPhone

I must say, I am impressed. Given that GPS essentially drives of Google Maps in the iPhone, and uses Cell locator instead of satellite locator (with its drop in accuracy), I did not expect good performance.

But, while in CA to celebrate Matsya's birthday, during the last week of March 2009, we went on a trip of Half Moon bay, promising Matsya and Vasundhara that we'll take them pony riding. Unfortunately, the regular farm was closed, so we went to the beach and then hit the search in iPhone for nearby farms, picked the one with Pony Rides and got the Maps to route it and then we hit the Start button. A blinking small sphere shows your current position and a flag, the destination. The blinking sphere moves as the car moves along.

While there is no Text to Speech, ostensibly for licensing reasons, this is quite good, if you have a navigator. If you are driving by yourself, TTS in a GPS unit is much more convenient, not to mention safe. However, if you have someone with you, drop the GPS and use your iPhone, one less thing to carry along.
